Good morning,

Read: James 3:1-12

“Let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath” (James. 1:19)

We all talk too much! What heartaches are caused, homes broken up, friends separated, wars incited by some hasty, angry words! Much of the conflict in the world is caused by a combination of narrow minds and wide mouths.

You will not often get into trouble by listening; and most of us can learn more from what others say than what we have to say.

A man once said, I have a confession to make. Many of the troubles I have encountered in the past I brought on myself because I opened my mouth at the wrong time. I have caused much heartache to myself because I did not keep to the biblical injunction, “swift to hear, slow to speak” (Jas.1:19). I opened my mouth too wide.

Jesus said, “Every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the Day of Judgment (Mt. 12:36). If you don’t hold your tongue, you may have to eat your words!

Prayer: Lord teach me when to speak, and when to be silent; in Jesus’ name I pray. Amen
